Sunday, December 18 :: Mizuno Glove Steamer Day!

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

On Sunday, December 18 from 11 am to 3 pm we will be holding a baseball glove steamer day!

If you are not familar with the glove steaming process, it is a machine that reconditions olds gloves or assists new gloves to become game ready, in less than 10 minutes!

How the conditioning process works:
A light coat of Mizuno “special sauce” is applied and carefully worked into the glove’s leather surface.  The glove is then placed inside the Glove Steamer for 1-2 minutes at a pre-determined temperature.  The freshly-steamed gloves are removed and the leather is pounded with a mallet to loosen stiff corners.

On Sunday only, we will be steaming any Mizuno glove purchased at Burghardt Sporting Goods within the last 30 days for FREE!

All Non-Mizuno Gloves purchased at Burghardt Sporting Goods (within the last 30 days) can be steamed for $15 and all gloves not purchased at Burghardt Sporting Goods can be steamed for $25.

July 9 | Autograph Signing with Players of the Negro Baseball League.

Friday, July 8th, 2011

In the store on Saturday, July 9, between 10 am and 12 pm we are pleased to offer an autograph signing with players from the Negro Baseball League.

The players participating will include Dennis Biddle, Charles Davis, James Cobbin, Carl Long, Johnny Washington, and Hank Presswood.

The first successful organized Negro Baseball League was established in Kansas City in 1920 by Rube Foster, a former player, manager, and owner of the Chicago American Giants. The league initially consisted of 8 teams and had great success in attempting to fight segregation and promote community involvement. The turning point for the Negro League began in 1945 when Jacke Robinson, the first African American to play in the Major League, was recruited by the Dodgers. While this event was considered a great triumph, it began the decline of the Negro League as fans began to follow their favorite players to the Major League. The last Negro League team folded in the 1960′s.
